Don't Forget:

Just a quick reminder:

The Conspirators' Trial will be on Tuesday.
Prosecuters: You are responsible of proving that the conspirators killed Julius Caesar for their own gain. In other words the conspiracy was unjustified.

Defendants: You are responsible for proving that the conspirators killed Julius Caesar for the good of Rome. In other words the conspiracy was justified.

Characters: You are responsible for knowing your character inside and out. You need to know how they feel about the crime committed an whether or not they thought the crime was justified or unjustified. You are required to stay in character during the trial or the judge will hold you in contempt.

If you need help, either on the trial or your paper, please e-mail me. kdbrown@willamette.edu. I check my e-mail frequently and would be willing to help you on anything. Please use this opportunity.

Notes for Persuasion Paper

A Persuasive Paper should:

- Take ONE side of an argument
- Stick to that argument!
- The minute you start to waver, I will start to see your argument crumble.
- It's important that you stay strong throughout your paper.
****Remember! Persuasive papers are argumentative. You all like to argue. Now is the time to show me how good you are at it!****

Where do you begin:
- Begin with a thesis statement.
- I need to know who you think the tragic hero is in the first paragraph....not the second or third.
- Your opening paragraph should include:
*Thesis
- The name of the play and the author
- William Shakespeare is not your buddy, so refer to him as Shakespeare after the first mention of his name.
- An interesting grab for my attention.

IMPORTANT:

1) Did they cover the tragic formula?
2) What are the tragic flaws of the tragic hero?
3) What was the tragic hero's mistaken action?
4) When/Where/What was the recognition?
5) What was the reversal of fortune?
6) What were the negative effects?
7) How did it end for the character?

Homework

Hey Everyone - Sorry about not getting the homework for today posted. Hopefully you all did it anyway (crossing fingers!) The homework due Wednesday will deal with the themes of Antigone. You need to go through the play and find 3 themes. For each of the themes write one paragraph explaining why it is a theme and where you find it in the play. It might be helpful to write down some of the evidence you find, but not necessary. Let me know if you need anything!
